This past weekend, we also made it to the Auckland museum, in the middle of Auckland Domain (a large park). Mike thought it was a short walk from the hotel, but it was a little longer than that. The museum has a tremendous collection of Maori artifacts, and also has a Maori singing and dancing program that we attended. Alexander (and Ilona) were part of the "audience participation" part of the program.

Hi folks!
I am just taking a tour thru the blog and I guess I have a thousand questions! Ok it may ionky be seven - but i'll try to add them as I see them.
The views are so spectacular - you must feel like its heaven (except for the bugs)!
What is the big round wooden thing? Recently I find myself fascinated by architecture.
The Aukland skyline is much more "futuristic" than I would have thought. Is it the Asian influence?

The round wooden thing is part of the atrium of the museum (that is an indoor picture). They added a new wing onto the old building.
As for the skyline, it does look futuristic in a 70s "Jetsons" way. The Skytower itself is the epitome of that style (in my uneducated view). The city itself is warmer and more vibrant than the architecture might imply.
