Tuesday January 30 was our first trip in to Auckland downtown in order for Mike to start getting organized at the university. Wonderful, big, ferry (passenger only). And it really moves! The trip passes by lovely islands, sailboats, and kayakers. Coffee and muffins are available on board, making for a very pleasant trip.
Auckland itself feels like a bigger city than its 1.2 million population would imply. It is clean and feels safe, with lots of people on the street and a very active downtown. The university is right next to downtown, but Google Maps doesn't show that it is a good climb up to the university from the ferry landing! Mike (who could stand to lose some weight) should welcome this extra bit of exercise.
